Photoshoot with a Difference - A Lift and Carry Story
“Are you ready?” a lady asked Beatrice from behind the door of her changing room. “Just a
minute, more please” Beatrice replied as she continued to survey her reflection of herself in a
black one-piece swimwear in the mirror. Feeling very nervous about her first photoshoot, the
6-foot-tall college student and now part-time model continue to reassure herself by telling
herself “I actually look good.” Walking out of her changing room and to the photography
area, she saw another model posing for a shoot, the model wearing red swimwear like hers.
Enamored by how comfortable the model was so comfortable with posing as Beatrice was
always insecure about her own body. Having been taller than all the other girls and even
many of the boys, Beatrice always had thought her height made her feel not normal. It really
does not help at all that the model being photographed there was just 5 feet tall and about her
age. Just watching the smaller model posing with a surfboard and doing it so well make
Beatrice get cold feet.
“Okay, Grace, you can go take a break. Beatrice, you’re up next” said the photographer as he
gestured Beatrice to get in position. Breathing in, Beatrice walked over in front of the camera.
She immediately froze once she saw the camera flash. Her confident demeanor turned to
fear, as the camera started flashing. “Okay, can you do a different pose?” the photographer
asked then she started to panic and fumble. “Are you okay?” the photographer asked as he
noticed that Beatrice was being awkward. The camera flashed and Beatrice moved upon the
flash causing the photo taken to be ruined. “Come on, lady, surely you can do better this” the
photographer proclaimed while frustrated at the lack of professionalism shown. “I’m sorry”
Beatrice apologized and got into another pose. Though the photographer was satisfied with
the pose and snapped a shot, he was done with Beatrice. “Why don’t you go take a break?
Grace, please step forward, I want to take more shots with you.” Said the photographer.
“How about I posed with her together?” Grace offered. “Sound fine with me” the
photographer replied. She walked toward Beatrice and asked, “Is this your first time?” “Yes”
Beatrice responded awkwardly and to her surprise, Grace replied “me too”. “I am Grace”
Grace introduced herself, “Beatrice” Beatrice responded and two of them faced the camera
and began their first pose. Standing next to someone who a foot shorter than she only gave
Beatrice is more insecure about her height, this worsens as they stand back-to-back for their
second pose. Noticing how uncomfortable Beatrice was, Grace decided to have some fun with her.
After Beatrice turned around, Grace stayed in position and got into a half-squat position. “Get
on my back” said Grace and before Beatrice could even react, Grace hoisted Beatrice onto
her back in a piggyback position. The move not only surprised Beatrice but also the
photographer as she walked around carrying the taller and clearly heavier woman on her back
with ease. Beatrice was shocked and holding onto Grace’s shoulders for dear life as Grace
spins around with her and even bounced her on her lower back. The photographer just
snapped a few shots as the pose was perfect while Beatrice was not having any of it despite
her enjoying it. “What are you doing? Put me down!” Beatrice pleaded. “Don’t tell me you
not enjoying any of it?” said Grace. “I kinda am, but please me put me down before you hurt
yourself” Beatrice begged. “You don’t need to worry about me, carrying you is really easy.”
“Next pose, please?” the photographer asked. Grace reluctantly put Beatrice down.
“So, what you wanna do next?” Beatrice defeatedly asked Grace knowing she was at her
mercy. Grace quickly scooped Beatrice up in a bridal position. “Has boyfriend even picked
you like this?” asked Grace. “I never had a boyfriend; boys are so intimidated by my height
that no one wanted to date” Beatrice replied. “That’s really a shame, you’re super cute”
Grace told Beatrice while she gently bounced her in her arms. “Okay, can I have one last
pose?” said the photographer. Grace put Beatrice down again and Beatrice asked Grace “so what
you do?” “Maybe just a simple hug? No lift at all” Grace answered. Beatrice greatly doubted
Grace’s part about no lift at all. Nevertheless, Beatrice hugged Grace only for Grace to tell
her, “About the part about no lift at all, I was lying”. Grace picked Beatrice and Beatrice
instinctively wrapped her long legs around Grace. “I knew you’re lying about the no lift, you
tiny devil” Beatrice said with a smile and she gazed comfortable to Grace as Grace walked
around and stopped to strike pose a few times, ending this rather unusual photo shoot.
